Dream House
Petralona, Greece
2015 - 2016
210 sq.m.
Completed
Our team was assigned the interior renovation of a corner building in one of the liveliest districts of Athens, Petralona, to accommodate the needs of a 4-member family. This 3-storey building dates to 60’s and bears some of the most typical morphological characteristics of this decade’s architectural style, such as the rounded edge of the volume, the curved balconies, the protruding volumes (aka: erker), the metal railings and the mosaic floors.
This project consists of 2 properties; an artist’s studio on the ground level and the 3-level family’s house. Due to the view and the available space area per floor the main rooms of the house (living room, kitchen, dining area and home-office) were allocated on the 1st level. The fully reconstructed mosaic floors along with the custom-made pieces of furniture supplement the final result of the space. As the house is located on a quiet street, the bedrooms were placed on the ground level. A small yard provides the necessary filter between the road circulation and the family’s private life. On the third level an extension of the former volume was constructed to create a small studio that can accommodate either some guests or an interior playground. The terrace was equipped with a kitchenette, barbeque and a dining area. A pergola, a couple of sun shading fabrics, some plants and the stunning view of the Flisvos Marina make this terrace the ideal rooftop meeting point throughout the year.
The stairwell was renovated by creating a curved boundary with glass bottles instead of using ordinary glass bricks. The diffusion of light and the colourful caustic effect created by the upcycled bottles compensate you for the lack of elevator.
